Welcome to Reader's Abode, and thanks for joining us.
Reader's Abode is a home for anyone who loves words on pages. We all love reading words; some of us like writing them too. The idea for this club came from a bunch of not-always-sane writers. In between plotting murders, trips to faraway galaxies and steam car races, we became friends, in spite of living in many different places: America, New Zealand, Europe and Africa.
Authors are strange creatures, and in order to get anything done in real life, we have to first stop Googling weird things like how to embalm a body. Then we have to resist the urge to watch funny cat videos on Twitter (which we justify as building up social media contacts to market our books.) We're quite proud that we've actually got this project off the ground.
Every six months, we'll be publishing a free collection of short stories and poems exclusively for you, the members of Reader's Abode. We hope you enjoy them. If you haven't already signed up to our mailing list, sign up now to get the latest issue, and receive future collections.
And since two collections a year isn't enough to feed a reading addiction, we're putting together a series of blog posts about other places where you can find lots of good stuff to read - at zero cost. We'll look at free online stories and magazines, and review free books on Amazon.
Free books? Why would anyone give away free books? The answer's simple. A lot of authors give away the first book in a series, which gives readers a chance to find out if they like it before paying out money. Other authors give away free books in return for signing up to their mailing list.
So stay with us for our Reader's Freebies series. We hope you'll find something you love through our blogs.
